Will Wroth, artistic coordinator
Will Wroth's early musical schooling was centred around rigorous vocal training under an ex-King's College chorister between the ages of 9 and 16 - a solid singing education which firmly established his love for, and familiarity with, the great Anglican choral tradition. He learnt both violin and trumpet, alongside his multiple choral activities, and was playing professionally by the age of 15.
He studied for the Bachelor of Music (performance/musicology) at Sydney University, went on to the Canberra School of Music to specialise in baroque trumpet, and moved to the Netherlands in 1992, receiving the Certificaat from the Royal Conservatorium in the Hague in 1995. Since then, Will has established himself as one of Europe's leading players, and has featured as a soloist on several important recent recordings (Brandenburg Concerto, Tafelmusik etc). He plays regularly with many of the leading ensembles in the Netherlands and abroad.
A lifelong love of 17th- and 18th-century English literature, theatre, and music has led him to make a particular study of the relationship between culture, text and music during the English Restoration and up to the death of Handel. He's now putting that knowledge and experience into practice through his work with Restoration Company.
